The putrid waters of Drayburns Harbor in the Lower District of the capital had always been home to thirteen-year-old Kellick Fisk. Raised as a fisherman’s son, Kell grew up on the seas butchering fish, scaling outrigging, and running the docks with the other boys. But the abrupt onset of puberty thrusts her into a life-altering discovery—Kell is a User, a hated individual who can conjure and control fire.
Betrayed by his best friend, Kell, and arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, fourteen-year-old Simon Ashway is traded to the Ludas Magnus, School of Munera Games, where he starts training to participate in future gladiatorial events under a Lanista’s tutelage. While he learns to fight and kill Users in the most brutal of ways, he struggles to process the betrayal that placed him on such a bloody path.
As Kell realizes her talents with the help of wise teachers and encouraging friends and Simon trains to become a champion, vowing to spearhead the bloody genocide the elites of Berceau so desperately want, they meet once again—in the arena.
Set in a time both familiar and foreign, Unbound explores the complexities of trust and the effects of trauma on relationships in a world of Users, Viterra, and unspeakable evil.
